Gita Gyana Yagna, Lucknow

A week-long Gita Gyana Yagna by Poojya Guruji Swami Atmanandaji was organized at Hari om Mandir, Lucknow – from 11th Mar evening to 18th Mar morning. The subject-matter of the twin pravachan series were: Gita Chapter-6 and Hastamalaka Stotram.

Gita-6 Pravachans:

In the Gita Chapter 6, Poojya Guruji revealed the unique Meditation package as revealed by Lord Krishna. The meditation in Gita is neither about being thoughtless, nor is it about just being absorbed somewhere. It does not talk about any trances, nor does it talk about ‘just being’. It first talks about positive attitude of selflessness in our day to day activities, and then appreciating and abiding in one’s truth – the timeless & limitless consciousness. Meditation should facilitate awakening, and not be a temporary escape. The goal is realizing the non-duality & completeness of Atma, and thereafter properly assimilating this truth and being that, seeing that all over. Lord also reveals practical & simple solutions about the inevitable problems being faced by the meditator, and also the consequences if one dies before realizing the truth in this life.

Hastamalaka Pravachans:

In the Hastamalaka Stotram, Poojya Guruji first narrated the story of the son of Prabhakar, a well-known & respectable Brahmin of village Sribali in the Udupi district of Karnataka. He had a lovely son, but the boy never showed any interest in the day to day worldly affairs. He neither mixed with children of his age nor with any family members. His parents were very worried. Once Sri Adi Sankara was invited to the village, and Prabhakar took the boy to the great Acharya. The Acharya was very happy to meet the boy, and told his father that this boy is a Yoga-bhrasta and is a very evolved soul. He asked few questions to the boy – about who he is, and the amazing answers which the boy gave became this famous stotra. The great Acharya was so pleased with it, that he even later wrote a commentary on the text, possibly it was the first time a guru wrote commentary on his disciples work to help the world know its depth & beauty. The text basically reveals various lakshanas as to ‘What is meant by Consciousness’. Whoever appreciates the real meaning of the word Consciousness verily knows Brahman, and obviously very few know its real implication. The discourses too were very enlightening. A comment posted on the Facebook about the discourse says it all. One Swami Shukla says that ‘Thank you dear Guruji for your so spiritually deep and so lovely discourse this time’.

Bhandara & Forthcoming Programs:

On the last day of the discourse series the Hari om Mandir authorities gave a sumptous bhandara to everyone. The next Gita Gyana Yagna’s at Lucknow will be in June, Oct and then again in Nov – at Hanuman Setu, Hari om Mandir and then at SBI Colony Community Hall near Aliganj, by Swamini Samatanandaji and Swamini Amitanandaji.
