Hanuman Chalisa Satsang: April 2015

The last Sunday of April 2015 was on 26th, so on that day we had the monthly Hanuman Chalisa Satsang – in the ground floor hall of Vedanta Ashram. The program started at sharp 6.30 PM with lovely bhajans. After about 45 mins of bhajans we had the Hanuman Chalisa Chanting – by everyone. This was followed by Poojya Guruji’s Pravachan. Finally was the Aarti & prasad.

Pravachan Summary:

In his pravachan Poojya Guruji first recapiculated the discussion on the first part of the third chaupayi given last month, viz. Mahabir Bikram Bajarangi, and then discused the latter part of the chaupayi – Kumati Nivar, Sumati ke Sangi. He said that this libe reveals the effect of the satsang of a saint like Hanumanji – it eliminates all the negative thoughts and inculcates the positive ones. Kumati & Sumati, he said, was intrinsically present in everyones mind, and education is all about invoking the positive ones and negating the negative ones. Sumati is that which brings peace, is compatible to better intelligence, karma, good health & relationships. It is good for the person and also for all those around. It facilitates better evolution. On the other hand Kumati represents the darker side of the person & mind. Person is insensitive, selfish, has no depth of understanding & feelings, or even if they are having good understanding too, they dont have the courage & enthusiasm to live as per their convictions. They may either have self-doubt and remain de-motivated or on the other hand maybe enraged, are basically unhappy & desperate, and are like a sore to themselves and also everyone around. Kumati is like having an enemy right inside your own house, and you dont really need any outside one. It is bad for ones own health, relationships, work efficiency, respect, and understanding. Satsang or good company is all about turning such a table. Satsang basically targets kumati and invokes sumati, and rest is automatically taken care of – for the betterment of the person & the world.

Poojya Guruji gave the example of how Hanumanji inspired the doubtful & disenthused Vibhishan about being accepted by Ramji. He was giving all the superficial reasons, Hanumanji gave his own example and removed all the doubt about Ramji’s magnanimity. Rest as we know is history. Satsang of Hanumanji changed the events completely and so also the life of Vibhishan. That is the effect of the Satsang of Hanumanji.

In the end everyone did the Aarti & partook the prasad.

Gita Gyana Yagna, Bhubaneswar starts :

The Gita Gyana Yagna by Poojya Swamini Samatanandaji started at Sivananda Samskrutik Kendra, at Asoka Nagar, Bhubaneswar on the evening of 6th April. The Head of the Kendra Poojya Swami Shivchidanandaji Maharaj inaugurated the discourse series by lighting the lamp.

Poojya Swaminiji is taking Gita Chapter 1 (Arjun Vishada Yoga) and Kathopanishad 1-1 in this Gyana Yagna. Normally these sections are not dealt very seriously so there was great inquisitiveness about the discourses. Being the first such program of Vedanta Mission there, it was a very good beginning. The publicity too was done very nicely – four colored pamplets, car-stickers, banners, invites etc. Rajesh Kumar, the main organizer worked from scratch and first got a feel of the place, contacted various such forums & groups and got the ball rolling.

There was a satisfactory attendance on the inaugural day. Some devotees from Lucknow also came over. It was nice to see that the Oriya speaking people were very comfortable with Hindi.

In his hour long pravachan Poojya Guruji Sri Swami Atmanandaji talked about the importance of our parents & mentors to help create the right foundation of our personality. That is why Tulsidas mentions about the great role of his mother Anjani & father Pavan devata. No wonder our tradition & scriptures give so much importance to our mothers. The Sruti too says that first & foremost one should look upon one’s mother as a godly figure – ‘Matradevo Bhava’, and then comes the role of our father & teachers. Last time we went into the story of Anjani Mata and her amazing resolve & tapasya for begetting a virtuous son. That was when the foundation of Hanumanjis personality was first formed.

Mahavir Bikram Bajrangi:

In the third chaupayi which was then started, wherein the awesome strength of Hanumanji is described. Hanumanji is verily described as an embodiment of strenth – at all levels. All these three words indicate strenth, and as scriptures normally do not use synonyms without any purpose, we need to go deeper into these words. Bajrangi shows his strong body – solid like a stone, and itself can be used as the vajra of Lord Indra. No wonder his blows were just too much for the Ravan’s special & strong soldiers in the Asoka Vatika. A person who works to make his body strong is indeed a man of great resolve & hardwork. In case of Hanumanji the extremely strong body, which is a source of inspiration for all body builders, is topped up with an extremely strong mind, and this is indicated by the word – Bikram. Vikram means valour, a quality which stands for ‘never-say-die’ attitude. He explained that this quality is a mix of Shaurya & Dhairya which Bhagwan Sri Ram revealed as the two wheeels of Dharma-Rath. Many a times a person may not be physically very strong, but it is this quality of valour which makes them stand apart and become a leader. Finally the word Mahavir reveals the spiritual strength. As long as we depend on something or the other for our strength, so long we continue to b weak. Mere dependence reveals inner lack & weakness, so the real strong ones do not draw their strength from extraneous sources, but from their own Self. The Upanishads reveal Atma to be Brahman – complete, infinte, imperishable. Those who know their Atma to be such, alone are the true strong & fearless ones. This makes the personality of Hanumanji truly holistically strong.

When a person becomes too strong then they may become a source of terror to the people around, unlike such people Hanumanji uses his strength to help & uplift others, so the Chalisa further ays – Kumati nivar, sumati ke sangi. The next pravachan will deal with this.
