Hanuman Chalisa Satsang: Oct 2016

The Oct 2016 edition of the monthly ‘Hanuman Chalisa Satsang‘ was organized at Vedanta Ashram by Poojya Guruji Sri Swami Atmanandaji on 23rd Oct, the 2nd last Sunday of the month. The last Sunday is Diwali, so the program was preponed.

The program started with lovely & spirited Bhajans by the regular Bhajan Mandali, and then after the arrival & welcome of Poojya Guruji the Hanuman Chalisa was chanted by everyone. Then followed his hour-long enlightening pravachan.

He continued from the topic of 11th & 12th chaupayi where Hanumanji went & brought the Sanjeevani booti, and after the successful treatment of Lakshmanji there was joy all over. Bhagwan Sri Ram was over-joyed and full of gratitude & blessings for Hanumanji. He embraced him with a tight hug.

Poojya Guruji said that it is worthy to be seen that every endeavor we or even gods undertake has its own obstacles. Hanumanji faced two life-threatening obstacles on his way to Himalayas & back. One was of Kaalneemi and other was being shot by Bharatji when he was flying over Ayodhya. With his wisdom he handled both these obstacles very nicely and completed his mission well in time. This is what every devotee needs to learn from Hanumanji. One never fear obstacles, they are part of every journey & goal. In fact bigger the goal, bigger will be the obstacles. Grace of God is not in somehow bypassing an obstacle, and keeping on getting favorable circumstances, but in having the inner strength & wisdom to handle all the obstacles. Obstacles basically come & test us. whether we truly deserve the goal or not. So one should always pray for Bal, Buddhi & Vidya rather than just some fruits of action.

The other point he raised & clarified was that we should know that the happiness of our Gurus & Gods is the only indication of our righteousness, which at times is very difficult to judge. Bhagwan was happy so Hanumanji was happy. He said that it is worthy to be noted that the happiness of Hanumanji was not in his success, but was because of the happiness of Bhagwan Ram. This s very important for every devotee to know. When someone praises us, then we can feel happy & elated, this is the joy of ego-satisfaction, of our self being good, special & important etc, but this is dangerous trap & path to take. When we depend on joy on someone, then we open the gates for inevitable & unnecessary sorrows too. Sorrows come not because someone has said or done something, but basically because it was different from what we expected. Sorrow is just shattering of our personal expectations. While we do not have control on what others do or say, but we do have control on our expectations. We need to learn the art of working without expectations. Just as we are free so also give freedom to others to act & think as they wish. Goal we need to have, but our joys need to come from something deeper & subjective. Maybe in invoking our latent potentials to face any situation, or in  retaining our equanimity in all testing situations. This is the way of wise ones. It is worthy to be noted that while Ramji was so elated and showering all blessings to Hanumanji, there is no mention of any special emotional response of Hanumanji. He takes all this praise very humbly & gracefully. He must be certainly happy – not because of his personal praise, but because of the happiness of Bhagwan Ram. Bhakti is all about Tat Sukh-sukhitvam. When one learns to free oneself from expectations from others, then thereafter we become as though insulated from all sorrows of life. It is this inner transformation which is thee real blessing.

In the end Poojya Guruji wished everyone a very Happy Diwali, and then there was the Aarti & finally the prasad.
